Malabar Special Sambar

INGREDIENTS

  • Toor Dal (Arhar) - 1 cup
  • Water – 6-8 cups
  • Onion – 1 nos. (chopped)
  • Tomato – 1 nos. (chopped)
  • Carrots-3
  • Ladies Finger-5
  • Brinjals - 2
  • Yam - 200g
  • Potato - 2
  • Drumsticks - 2-3 sticks
  • Cooking Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Tamarind - 1 tbsp (pulp)
  • Curry Leaves – for seasoning
  • Beevi's Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
  • Sambar Powder - 3 tsp
  • Beevi's Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp

PREPARATION METHOD


Wash, clean and chop the vegetables into small pieces.

Cook the dal with 2 cups of water.

Once cooked, keep the cooked vegetables aside for later use.

Wash, clean and soak the dal for 15-20 minutes.

Once cooked, keep the cooked dal aside for later use.

Heat oil in a separate pan and simmer.

Once the seasoning gravy is prepared, add tamarind pulp to it.

Once the mustard seeds crackle, add curry leaves, Beevi's Chilli Powder, Beevi’s Turmeric Powder and Malabar Sambar Powder to it.

Simmer for about a minute and add the sliced onion.

Cook the sambar special for another 10-15 minutes.

Malabar Sambar Special is ready to serve hot with rice.
